Unweeded Garden
Inspiration comes from living in New Hampshire and my natural surroundings. I view my paintings as environments that are created from memory, observation, and time. Painting for me is a place to poke and prod ideas, to search for understanding, to explore the surface, while leaving hints of past decisions in the underpainting. Time gives the composition the space to form as thoughts meander over each other in the way nature continues to move forward and change the landscape. As I observe nature, what interests me most is what is unobserved. The feeling of wind bending around a tree or how the environment changes as we move from day to night and season to season. I think of my paintings as a place to gather fragments of nature and weave them together over time. My hope is to give the viewer a place to wander with their imagination within the pathways of the painting. Nature truly never stops moving forward and changing, and my paintings are an attempt to capture and appreciate the moment.
